Your flight to happiness: A 7 step journey to emotional freedom

Local Author Review for June..

This month I am going down a slightly different path as my local author for June is Toni Mackenzie. Her book Your flight to Happiness-A 7 step approach to emotional freedom was published in May this year and has over 20 5* reviews over on Amazon UK. As I have always been a bit of a Bridget Jones when it comes to self help books, I was delighted to receive a review copy and have been reading it over a few nights but can now bring you my thoughts.

About this book…

Your Flight to Happiness is a self-help book with a flying theme, taking the reader on a journey which will enable them to release negative thinking and limiting beliefs, and create emotional freedom and happiness from within. Chapter one tells of how the author found herself at an all time low point in her life, her ‘plane crash’. She then guides the reader through the seven steps she used to rebuild her life and learn how to fly again.

So many people believe they will be happy at some time in the future – when they get a new job, meet a new partner, go on holiday, buy a new outfit, lose weight… The truth is, happiness does not come from outside experiences or other people, happiness ultimately is an inside job!

Throughout this colour-illustrated book she also shares some of her relevant early childhood experiences, illustrating how our subconscious minds become programmed during the first few years of our lives with downloaded information. This information leads to our beliefs about ourselves, other people, and the world we live in, and we continue to act upon them, often holding ouselves back, believing that we’re not good enough, feeling anxious about the future, fearing that we’ll fail…

The exercises and information within the chapters provide the reader with various tools and techniques to change the way they feel by changing the way they think, and ultimately reach their destination of Happiness.

About the author…

Toni Mackenzie hung up her air stewardess hat many years ago, married a pilot and was happily cruising along when her plane unexpectedly descended into a crash landing. After many challenging life experiences and lessons, she gradually became stronger and wiser, eventually learning to fly again, this time higher than ever before…

As a self-empowerment coach, Toni now spends much of her time sharing the lessons that she has learned by speaking, writing and helping other people to create inner peace, freedom and happiness for themselves.

The rest of the time she enjoys being mum to her grown-up son and daughter, and her two beautiful long-haired cats, as well as reading, practising yoga and qi-gong and dining out with friends in the many nearby restaurants of the Cheshire and Manchester area where she currently lives.

My review…

This book has such a lovely look to it that the first thing I will say us that even if you normally read on a Kindle, I would definitely get the paperback version of this gorgeous little self help book. Mainly due to the fact there is space to write your thoughts but also because the graphics and artwork in it looks so much better in paperback form! It’s one of those books you will want to either keep little bookmarks in or to turn a corner down, to refer back to a helpful phrase or exercise. A perfect book to keep on your bedside cabinet or in your handbag.

One of the reasons that this book works so well is because Toni gives so much of herself to it. Yes, she is a trained therapist now but once she was just a normal wife and mother who found herself unexpectedly in the most difficult time of her life. And to use one of my own favourite sayings, a woman is like a teabag, it isn’t until she’s in hot water that you realise how strong she is! I loved the way Toni gave us a very personal insight into her life, it was quite an open look into her background and to how her life was shaped from her upbringing which in turn lead to the paths she took. And there was quite a major crossroads she had to face!

Due to Toni having been an air stewardess, she has pursued a flight theme within the book that works perfectly and many of the little quotes and sayings have an aviation  feel to them as well. The exercises need a little bit of time to get used to, but I have picked up some fabulous little tips here that will stick with me for ever now and I will pass down to my family as well. A self help book to help bring a little positivity into your life as the only person who can do this is YOU!

Many thanks to Toni and to Sian for my review copy of Your Flight to Happiness in return for an unbiased review.

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.

  1. This sounds different from all the self-help books with a clinical voice telling you how to live your life in a certain way. It is so much more relatable and so much easier to understand when there are personal stories or experiences thrown into those books.
