My weekend at Theakstons Crime in Harrogate

You will all have to forgive me as it’s taking me sometime to get back down to earth after a fabulous time at the Theakstons Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate last weekend. I just had the most amazing few days meeting so many authors, publishers, fellow bloggers and readers. There were probably too many to mention but I must mention Noelle and her sidekick Claire from Crimebookjunkie Sarah from By the letter book reviews  Kat from BCB and More Shell from Chelles book reviews Susan from Books from Dusk till Dawn Helen from Baatty about books Anne from Random things through my Letterbox and Janet at From First Page To Last

Highlights for me included a workshop on the Saturday morning for Mark Edwards and his new book The Devils Work which is out in September and this was followed by a Bloggers Brunch which was organised by the lovely Sam Eades and was attended by authors Mason Cross, Daniel Coles, Harry Bingham and Sarah Naughton. We had a lot of fun with a speed dating approach so that we could have a chat with them all!

But I think the highlight for me (apart from the most amazing reaction to meeting ME that made my day-you know who you are!!) was when I had an email in the middle of the Crime Novel of the Year awards ceremony to tell me I had won afternoon tea at Bettys with…..Linwood Barclay!!! So taking fellow blogger and roommate Sarah Hardy with me, we had the most amazing two hours with the man himself over a fabulous and delicious afternoon tea. Definitely an occasion that I will never forget!

And then to top it all, I came home with a huge pile of books! So until next year…it may take me that long to read all these books!!

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.

  1. Glad you had such a fab time:)). What a lovely surprise getting the afternoon tea with Linwood Barclay – I’m assuming he was great fun… I always love going to book Cons – we’re trekking all the way up to Scarborough for this year’s Fantasycon and I’ll be travelling cross-country for Bristolcon this year. I love the fact that most authors are so approachable and friendly:).

    1. He was such an incredibly interesting person to talk to! Very down to earth! It was my first time at any sort of get together of this type and I had such fun!! And yes they are very approachable but I’m quite a shy person so didn’t like to put myself forward lol 😀
