Blood Lines by Angela Marsons #BlogTour @Bookouture @WriteAngie

I am over the moon to be on the blog tour today for Blood Lines by Angela Marsons one of the best crime series to have been published for years!

About this book…

How do you catch a killer who leaves no trace?

A victim killed with a single, precise stab to the heart appears at first glance to be a robbery gone wrong. A caring, upstanding social worker lost to a senseless act of violence. But for Detective Kim Stone, something doesn’t add up.

When a local drug addict is found murdered with an identical wound, Kim knows instinctively that she is dealing with the same killer. But with nothing to link the two victims except the cold, calculated nature of their death, this could be her most difficult case yet.

Desperate to catch the twisted individual, Kim’s focus on the case is threatened when she receives a chilling letter from Dr Alex Thorne, the sociopath who Kim put behind bars. And this time, Alex is determined to hit where it hurts most, bringing Kim face-to-face with the woman responsible for the death of Kim’s little brother – her own mother.

As the body count increases, Kim and her team unravel a web of dark secrets, bringing them closer to the killer. But one of their own could be in mortal danger. Only this time, Kim might not be strong enough to save them…

My review…

Before I wrote this review I had a quick flick back to the reviews I wrote for the previous Kim Stone books and I noticed one thing-every review said that THAT book was the best so far! And I’m afraid I will be repeating myself again here when I say that THIS BOOK IS HER BEST SO FAR! It’s so unusual for an author to be able to write books that are consistently as good as their last but Angela Marsons does the nearly impossible feat of making each book BETTER than her last! I loved meeting Doctor Alex Thorne in Evil Games so it’s a brilliant move to bring her back! Her story was obviously fighting to be heard again.

Kim Stone is working on her latest case-the murder of an older woman, a wife and mother who seems to have not an enemy in the world, proving it difficult to find a motive let alone a killer! When another body is found, it throws up the possibility of a serial killer so Kim is determined to find the person responsible before another body appears. But her private life is proving to be even more stressful than her job when she receives letters from her arch nemesis Dr Alexandra Thorne who seems to have found a very personal route to set about Kim’s destruction from her jail cell.

What I adored about this book was the way it totally played with my emotions. I loved, I hated, I laughed, I cried and for a crime novel that is some feat! Alex Thorne is a brilliant character creation who is the perfect foil for the cool, self preservation of Kim Stone. Honestly, I haven’t loved a “baddie” so much for a very long time. She is just a perfectly written sociopath that weaves her spell not just over everyone in her fictional work but over us readers as well! For an author to make that happen in real life is such an amazing achievement, as she has lifted the evil and charisma of a sociopath off the page to make her as realistic as hell! And although I was mentally cheering Kim on, some part of me wanted her to hold back so I could see what Alex was really capable of. Yes I know, that wasn’t a very nice thought but the fiendishness in that woman had no off switch!

Although this is essentially a crime whodunit, at the heart of this book is a story based around relationships and the way we handle the emotions those relationships throw at us. Kim has to face the most destructive relationship she has in her life, the one with her murderous, schizophrenic mother which is being influenced by the evil of Alex but the author balances this  by Kim finally finding comfort in the friendships with her colleagues. There are also those themes running throughout the case Kim, Bryant, Dawson and Stacey are working on as they investigate the seemingly unconnected murders. There were some very hard hitting emotional scenes here which made me cry-really snotty tears as well!

There are very few books I would pre order without even seeing a blurb but as soon as the next instalment of the Kim Stone series comes out that is exactly what I will be doing. These books are totally absorbing crime thrillers that everyone needs to read NOW!!

About the author…

Angela Marsons is the author of Amazon #1 Bestseller SILENT SCREAM.

She lives in the Black Country with her partner, their bouncy Labrador and a swearing parrot.

She first discovered her love of writing at Junior School when actual lessons came second to watching other people and quietly making up her own stories about them. Her report card invariably read “Angela would do well if she minded her own business as well as she minds other people’s”.

After years of writing relationship based stories (My Name Is and The Middle Child) Angela turned to Crime, fictionally speaking of course, and developed a character that refused to go away.

She is signed to for a total of 8 books. The second, third and fourth books in the Kim Stone series, EVIL GAMES, LOST GIRLS and PLAY DEAD are also now available.
