I’m over the moon to be on the blog tour today for While You Were Sleeping by a favourite author of mine-Kathryn Croft!
About this book…
You wake up to find the man beside you is dead.
He is not your husband. This is not your bed.
Tara Logan adores her perfect little family: husband, Noah, and two children, teenager Rosie and eleven-year-old Spencer.
But her happiness is shattered when she wakes in her neighbour, Lee Jacobs’ bed, with no memory of how she got there or what happened between them. And worse – he has been stabbed to death.
Convinced she didn’t kill Lee, Tara flees home and stays silent, holding her breath as the investigation grips the neighbourhood.
But as her daughter spirals out of control, and her husband becomes increasingly distant, Tara starts to wonder if someone in her own life knows what really happened that night. And when the police turn their questions towards her, Tara realises she has to find out.
But what will it take to uncover the real story, and can she survive the truth?
I do love a good twisty psychological suspense with an unreliable narrator and unlikable characters. Which is just as well as While You Were Sleeping is absolutely crammed full of them! Honestly, you couldn’t turn the page without having another suspect behaving badly!
The opening few pages of this book throw you into a terrifying scenario that felt like a living nightmare! Tara has woken up in a strange bed with a man who is not her husband. Not only does she not remember how she got there, she recognises the man as her neighbour…..her very DEAD neighbour. And does she do what most of us would have done and dial 999? No of course she doesn’t!!! She runs home and tries to pretend it never happened!
Tara and her husband, Noah, are struggling with their personal problems and marriage difficulties but most of all, a very difficult relationship with their teenage daughter Rosie. Now I found Rosie to be a hugely annoying teenage girl! Her constant lies to her parents just went on and on, far beyond the expected teenage fibs, this girl obviously had some serious issues! And due to the fact that every single character also had something to hide there was no way I could even think about who had murdered Lee and why. There were red herrings galore and I felt like I had been in a fast spin cycle by the time I got to the final reveal!
This book really did have the most unsympathetic group of fictional individuals I’ve come across in a very long time! The only one I didn’t suspect of any wrong doings was the adorable Spencer as he seemed so out of place in the toxic environment of the Logan household, but towards the end I actually did suspect EVERYONE-even him!
This was one of the twistiest, most frustrating books I’ve read for a while! I was getting quite annoyed with myself for not being able to sift through the huge amount of deception and find a thread of truth. But Kathryn Croft hasn’t let me down yet and she doesn’t here either! The final few pages lived up to that dramatic opening scene with a breathtakingly tense conclusion that finally gave me the answers I had been craving. This truly is a psychological thriller to mess with your head!
