About this book…
My husband loves me.
I love him.
But, a secret is eating us alive.
It’s not the one I keep from him.
It’s not the one he couldn’t keep from me.
And, someone knows everything.
A stranger. A stalker. An online nightmare.
I’ve got mail.
A gripping psychological thriller from the author of international bestselling NO KISS GOODBYE
My review…
I loved No Kiss Goodbye by Janelle Harris. It was an amazingly refreshing change for a book to feature such a family drama like no other I had read up until that day. So it was always going to be a difficult act to follow but See Me Not has a pretty good try!
The story is told from the viewpoints of a husband and wife David and Emma and also from Amber, who is David’s workmate. Emma is distraught by the death of her friend Danny, a railway worker who saved her life 14 years previously. The fact that it looks like he has committed suicide seems to affect her badly. She is keeping a secret from her husband but it looks like he is also keeping secrets from her and someone is determined to mess up their lives with their knowledge of those secrets.
Emma was a difficult character to take to initially as I found her rather needy and erratic. But as the book progressed my thoughts started to change and as the plot started to unravel my allegiances also started to switch around. This is quite a twisty character driven psychological suspense and I thought I had worked out where it was going but I didn’t quite have all the threads pulled together. It’s quite an emotional read at times and I could tell the author had put her heart and soul into her storyline.
Whilst I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as No Kiss Goodbye, this was once again a heartbreaking fictional account of how mental health issues affect relationships within families as well as the person themselves. And if I hadn’t been emotional enough at the end, then the authors note definitely finished me off. Be prepared.
Many thanks to the author for my review copy of See Me Not.
