Today I’m thrilled to be sharing my review to Her Secret by Kelly Florentia the much anticipated sequel to No Way Back.
About this book…
When one door closes, another opens, or so the saying goes.
After being in a long-term relationship for eight years, Audrey Fox never thought she’d tie the knot. But at the age of forty-two, fate throws her a lifeline and she finally has it all – a loving husband, successful career, beautiful family and loyal friends. Life couldn’t be better for Audrey … until a family member entrusts her with a secret that threatens trouble in paradise.
Lying to her new husband definitely wasn’t on the cards when Audrey took her vows, but now she feels there’s no other choice. She either keeps the secret or risks hurting the people that she loves. And then just when the dust seems to settle, an old flame turns up and creates a storm that could bring her world crashing down …
Unable to discuss her dilemma with her significant friends Louise and Tina, or sister-in-law Vicky, the cracks begin to show. Torn between her husband and the people she’s known and loved for years, Audrey’s perfect life begins to spiral out of control. Where do her loyalties lie and whom can she trust? Because there’s no smoke without fire and everyone has secrets … don’t they?
Having enjoyed No Way back by Kelly Florentia I was super excited to find out there was going to be a sequel! The cover of Her Secret appealed to me straight away (who wouldn’t love a flash of red on the soles of their shoes?!) and perfectly conveyed the love of shoes by the fascinating heroine of these books, Audrey Fox.
When we last met Audrey she had finally tied the knot and married the man of her dreams but how is married life treating her?! Well, pretty good indeed until she learns something about a member of her family and has to keep secrets from those she loves. Now, everyone has secrets but some can be harder to keep than others especially when it looks like Audrey has more to lose than most if this secret comes out!
Sometimes it’s hard to remember that Audrey is 42 as she is certainly hanging on to her youth with her attitude at times! Her marriage to the gorgeous Daniel seemed a little strained at times when we meet them again and I worried that maybe all was not as rosy as it could be in the garden of marriage! In fact, everyone seemed to be struggling with problems in their relationships and there were more secrets flying round than I could count at one point. Daniels daughter Connie was still acting like a spoilt brat even though she’s a mother herself but this time her actions even shocked me!
I think you do need to read No Way Back before tackling Her Secret as it helps to understand who the characters are and why Audrey acts as she does. I said in my review of that book that I struggled to remember who all the characters were in that book at times but I didn’t have that problem once with Her Secret. The plot flowed perfectly as all the additional characters were well formed and memorable. I also found this to be a little bit darker than No Way Back with its added mystery and a few big shocks along the way. There were still plenty of laugh out loud moments though and I loved how Kelly Florentia brought Audrey to life as she dealt with the aftermath of the big decision she made in No Way Back.
I have to say that although I loved No Way Back, I actually enjoyed Her Secret far more! I loved how much Audreys character had developed and matured from book one but without losing her spirit, her determination or her love of shoes! The theme of “it’s never too late” is one we can all relate to and it’s continuation here delighted and surprised me from start to finish. I adore this new trend of mature women’s fiction and Kelly Florentia delivers on all levels for me. I can’t recommend this book enough!
