Tell Me A Secret by Samantha Hayes @Bookouture @samhayes

Today I’m thrilled to be on the blog tour for Tell Me A Secret by Samantha Hayes. Many thanks to Noelle at Bookouture for inviting me!

About this book…

Tell her all your secrets and she’ll tell you all her lies…

Everything in Lorna’s life runs like clockwork, from her 6 a.m. morning run to the strict 60-minute counselling sessions she gives. It’s the only way she can deal with the terrible secret she carries.

When a new client arrives for his first appointment, Lorna feels her perfect life unravel in a matter of seconds. It’s Andrew, the man she’s spent the last year desperately trying to forget. It seems he can’t forget her either…

Against her better judgement she anonymously contacts him on a dating site. Messaging him could mean the end of her marriage and her career, but she needs to know if his motives are genuine.

When Andrew is found dead in his home, grief quickly turns to fear when messages from him continue to arrive on Lorna’s phone. Somebody knows her secret and wants to use it to destroy everything she has.

Will she risk her family and her sanity to keep her secret? Will she risk her life…?

My review…

I am a huge Samantha Hayes fan and loving that she is now part of the Bookouture family! Now there is a match made in heaven for me! But I do have to start but saying that I worried that she had lost her touch with her newest book Tell Me A Secret that came out last week. I always pre-order her books and read them straight away but when I started this one, I did think it didn’t seem like her usual style! The first half of the book was a bit of a slow burner and I got very frustrated with the main character of Lorna and her “big secret”. She seemed to have the perfect life, a wonderfully supportive husband and adorable daughter and even though her stepson was sometimes a difficult teenager, their relationship was getting better. Then about a third of the way through I realised I was hooked by Lorna’s stressful life and worried about how she was going to cope with all the drama that was being thrown at her!

I do love a dual narrative and trying to work out how the points of view are connected, and here I spent quite a long time thinking about theories for this book. I’m not going to say anymore than that because I want you to be just as surprised by the twists and turns of the plot as I was! And I have to admit I was way off with my guesses! Because I totally underestimated Samantha Hayes at the start of Tell Me A Secret! Of course she hasn’t lost her touch!! The second half of this book was the pay off for the slowly savoured and increasing tension of the first half and I absolutely loved it! There were some jaw dropping reveals and twists aplenty that just kept on coming!! I physically couldn’t put this down! And I still can’t quite believe I doubted one of my most favourite author’s because she totally delivered for me!

Tell Me A Secret is a shocking and addictive triumph! A psychological thriller that came together perfectly, leaving me desperate for more! Loved it!

Tell Me A Secret: A gripping psychological thriller with heart-stopping mystery and suspense is available to purchase now from Amazon UK (please note this is an affiliate link) My review copy came from the publisher via netgalley..

Meet the author…

Samantha Hayes grew up in Warwickshire, left school at sixteen, avoided university and took jobs ranging from private detective to barmaid to fruit picker and factory worker. She lived on a kibbutz, and spent time living in Australia and the USA, before finally becoming a crime-writer.

Her writing career began when she won a short story competition in 2003 and her ninth novel, THE REUNION, was published in February 2018. Her novels are family-based psychological thrillers, with the emphasis being on ‘real life fiction’. She focuses on current issues and sets out to make her readers ask, ‘What if this happened to me or my family?’

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.
