Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh #BlogTour @Lauren_BooksPR @Tr4cyF3nt0n @SSCav

Today I’m thrilled to be sharing my review of Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh as part of the blog tour. Huge thanks to Tracy Fenton from TBConFB for the invite!

About this book…

THE SERIAL KILLER ISN’T ON TRIAL.

HE’S ON THE JURY…

‘To your knowledge, is there anything that would preclude you from serving on this jury?’

Murder wasn’t the hard part. It was just the start of the game.

Joshua Kane has been preparing for this moment his whole life. He’s done it before. But this is the big one.

This is the murder trial of the century. And Kane has killed to get the best seat in the house.

But there’s someone on his tail. Someone who suspects that the killer isn’t the man on trial.

Kane knows time is running out – he just needs to get to the conviction without being discovered.

My review…

At last! A book that totally lives up to its hook! Thirteen has been one of the books most anticipated this year due to that tagline and I was concerned that I would end up being disappointed with the resulting storyline. But Thirteen completely blew me away! It’s a brilliant, cleverly constructed and utterly gripping legal thriller that has become one of my favourite reads of the year so far!

I hadn’t heard of Steve Cavanagh until I received one of his books in my goody bag from Theakstons Crime Writing Festival a couple of years ago and I had such looks of envy thrown my way that I knew I just had to read it! I will say now that this CAN be read as a standalone novel, although I have all the previous ones in this series I have only read one, so knock yourself out and grab a copy of the book EVERYONE is talking about! This is a top notch legal thriller featuring Eddie Flynn, con artist turned lawyer who is brought in to help defend Hollywood superstar Bobby Solomon who has been charged with the murder of his beautiful actress wife. There is a fabulously quirky cast of supporting characters but my absolute favourite was Joshua Kane!! What a wonderful creation he was! Devious, intelligent and with a real talent for his “craft” I couldn’t help but be mesmerised by his dedication to achieving his goals!!

Steve Cavanagh is an amazing writer! He totally hooked me with this storyline and all the threads laced together perfectly to create one of the best fast paced thrillers I HAVE EVER READ! In fact, his books are probably the only ones in this genre that really, REALLY work for me and this is definitely his best work so far. If you’ve never been a fan of the legal thriller genre then this is the book that will make you about turn BIG TIME!

What a tagline! What a book! What do I have to do to get the next Eddie Flynn book ASAP?! Highly recommended by me!

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.
