The Perfect Friend by Barbara Copperthwaite #blogtour #bookreview @bookouture @BCopperthwait

I’m thrilled to be part of the blog tour today for The Perfect Friend by Barbara Copperthwaite. Many thanks to Noelle Holten for inviting me onto the tour and for my review copy of the book.

About this book…

She’ll do anything for you…My name is Alex, and my world has been shattered.
My husband has left me.
My children won’t speak to me.
My friend Carrie is the only person I have.
She’s the only one I can trust to keep all my secrets.
She’d never do anything to let me down.
Would she?

My review…

I am a huge fan of this author and always have her books on pre order as soon as they are available! So I was thrilled when this arrived in my kindle last week and I settled down to enjoy the glorious sunshine in my garden and I didn’t leave it until the sun had long set! What a deliciously dark and twisty tale Barbara Copperthwaite weaves in The Perfect Friend and I loved every minute!

I really felt for Alex as soon as I met her in this novel. Lonely without her husband and with her children not talking to her, her only friend in the world is her new friend Carrie who she has met in a support group. Alex is a recovering anorexic and Carrie has been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. It’s an unusual friendship but it works for them, both seeking the emotional support the other can provide. But lies threaten their friendship and soon they are both in danger of losing the only person they trust with all their secrets.

Wow! Talk about a twisty plot! Just when you think you’ve got it all worked out, another shocker is thrown into the mix to make you doubt everything you have read before. I’m not even going to go into the plot as I would hate to reveal any unintentional spoilers as this book needs to be read with an open mind so that the shockwaves wash over you with as much strength as they can to knock you off your feet! It’s perfectly paced and raises issues that are handled in a delicate way but still raising vital awareness of how these issues can affect our wellbeing.

And I especially want to mention the ending. Without giving anything away, I have to say that I was completely overwhelmed with emotion by the final few pages. I can’t remember EVER sobbing my way through the epilogue of a psychological thriller before and it’s testament to the beautifully crafted narrative that I was able to identify the sentiments she so expertly expressed and react accordingly. Honestly, I was a snotty mess by the final page!

Barbara Copperthwaite just goes from strength to strength! She manages to both delight and surprise me with every book she publishes. The Perfect Friend was an addictive triumph and I can’t wait to read more!

Highly recommended by me!

Meet the author…

Barbara is the Amazon and USA Today bestselling author of psychological thrillers INVISIBLE, FLOWERS FOR THE DEAD, THE DARKEST LIES, and HER LAST SECRET. Her latest book is THE PERFECT FRIEND.More importantly, she loves cakes, wildlife photography and, last but definitely not least, her two dogs, Scamp and Buddy (who force her to throw tennis balls for them for hours).Having spent over twenty years as a national newspaper and magazine journalist, Barbara has interviewed the real victims of crime – and also those who have carried those crimes out. She is fascinated by creating realistic, complex characters, and taking them apart before the readers’ eyes in order to discover just how much it takes to push a person over a line. When not writing feverishly, she is often found hiding behind a camera, taking wildlife photographs. Author Social Media Links:Facebook: www.facebook.com/AuthorBarbaraCopperthwaiteTwitter: https://twitter.com/BCopperthwaitInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_barbara_copperthwaite/Website: www.barbaracopperthwaite.com

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.
