Goodreads Challenge 2018 Update

So after reaching my target for the Goodreads challenge 2 years in a row now, I decided to really challenge myself for 2018! But it’s looking very unlikely that I will meet that challenge this year. I’ve only reached just over halfway this past week and as it’s now August 20th it’s obvious that, with well over half the year gone already, I’m quite far behind. I’m hoping to read a few more books than normal on my holiday soon but holidaying with a 7 year old means that I will probably be only reading in the evenings. I do have to admit that I really am looking forward to getting away and spending a relaxing week off!

So this is how my Goodreads challenge is looking so far…

I do think in hindsight that setting my target to 300 was too much of an optimistic stretch but at the time I didn’t realise that I’d have a brand new job starting this year which has had a big impact on my reading time.

So how about you? Have you reached your halfway target? Would you rather set your target lower so you know you can complete the challenge? Or would you rather test yourself to see how far you can go? Let me know!

Happy reading!

    1. I wanted to push myself but think that it was probably not the best of ideas!
And thank you! Looking forward to a week away before the madness of the new school year starts! Xxx

  1. I’ve done both. I’ve set the challenge high to test myself and I’ve set it lower to take off the pressure. I set it lower this year, knowing fully well I’d beat it quite easily with all the tours I can’t say no to but it was just one less thing to keep a panicky eye on. lol. My initial goal was 150 (although in my head I am aiming for 300 since I was only two away from that last year) and I’m now at 193.

    1. That’s brilliant! And I can see your point totally as I can’t say no either ๐Ÿ˜‚ Last years target was 250 which I went over so thought 300 might be achievable. You’re doing so well! Keep up the good work! Xx

  2. Good grief 300 books?! Why not change it to 200 which is still a huge number? Pretty sure they let you do that. I’ve just met my target of 100 this year which has been the same the past two years. I usually reach it in August or September but I’m not increasing it because I don’t want the stress!

    1. I’ve had 250 the last couple of years and have met that. I just had the “good idea” that as I always got there and a little beyond I would try to stretch myself ๐Ÿ˜‚ BAD IDEA!! But I’m not going to stress about it and if I don’t meet it then I will revert to 250 next year again. We don’t need the stress ๐Ÿ˜‚ xx

  3. My target is 212 and I think Iโ€™m about 6 books behind schedule. Not too bad but unless I read a bunch of novellas I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll get there. I hit around 200 a year I think. Which is a lot! I canโ€™t even think about reading 300. Wow! You are a publishers dream!

  4. Wow Jo! You are much too hard on yourself. You have already over-achieved my target of 100 books. I’m standing at 68 – so I’ve passed my halfway mark. 300 is very ambitious indeed. I think you’ve done wonderfully.

    1. Awww thank you! I am not stressing about it as books are to be enjoyed and I’m just happy with that. I’m sure you will hit your target by the end of the year so well done!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

  5. I’m afraid I cheat and always set the Goodreads Challenge for 130 – 10 books a month and 10 extra for my holiday and I usually read between 140 & 150 a year so not really a challenge more a check to make sure I’m on track ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great break!

  6. Iโ€™ve completed mine, I had it set to 60 and am on 63, itโ€™s not a huge amount but last year my goal was 35 and I managed 49 so for me itโ€™s good progress ๐Ÿ˜Š 159 is fantastic well done you ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  7. Wow! 300! Mine was 45 of which I’ve read 36. I set it quite low because I knew I was going to be reading some big books – not just in length, but also in subject matter.
