An Unconventional Affair by Mollie Blake #BlogTour @rararesources @MollieBlake0

Today I’m thrilled to be sharing my review for An Unconventional Affair by Mollie Blake as part of the blog tour. Many thanks to Rachel Gilby for inviting me and for my review copy of the book.

About this book…

Tranquility “Tee” Hammond is head of a law firm. Having escaped a violent husband, with a son she was really too young to have had, her life revolved around her work. There was little time for anything else and she didn’t need anything else. When she was inclined to treat herself to a little sexual pleasure, she engaged the services of Email Indulgence—an exclusive club—one email for one night of sex with a man she didn’t know and didn’t need to care about again. For her, it was enough. But her life was about to be changed by a friend of Tee’s son at university, Barrington Stone, fifteen years her junior who is determined to woo her into an unconventional affair.

My review…

I love Mollie Blakes books and was really looking forward to reading part one of An Unconventional Affair. I’m not normally keen on cliffhanger endings though but that’s probably because I’m just so blooming impatient!! So be warned that you will be left hanging at the end of An Unconventional Affair but hopefully not for too long!

With the majority of this book set in Cheshire, it gave me an added thrill as I do love spotting the places that I know and love in books. And I felt straightaway at home in the local setting. The intriguing lifestyle lived by Tee Hammond reeled me in immediately and I found myself really liking her from the very first page! She was a mature woman, who had lived through an abusive relationship and come out the other side stronger and more self aware, putting herself and her son first. Her sexual pleasures were planned so that she met other like minded people, never getting emotionally attached and deciding who, when, where and how. The agency she registered with was the exclusive source of her adventures, but that was before her son brought home his friend from uni, the wonderfully named Barrington Stone!

As a mature woman myself, I tried to appreciate the reasons Tee kept herself emotionally and physically unattached but I loved that when she did let herself go it was with a young man 15 years her junior. Go Tee!! The recent increase in women writing about the issues facing older women has been particularly embraced by me and so to take that a step further and see Tee letting her guard down for her much younger lover was fabulous!

Although this is a very explicit book, the subject is tactfully explored and beautifully written. Topics such as abusive relationships are at the forefront of Mollie Blakes inspiration and it’s great to see her using her talents to raise awareness of issues that concern her. Plus to see how she creates Tee, layering up her personality so that she becomes a realistically confident and successful businesswoman despite the fact that she has been married to a controlling and abusive man. It was an important part of who Tee was and gave an insight into the internal struggle she had fought and won.

An Unconventional Affair was a hot and heavy love story with all the sex, glamour and money a Cheshire girl could handle and I loved it. I can’t wait for the next one in this series and I’m sure that you will feel the same so don’t worry, do pick a copy up, as there’s a sneaky preview peek at the back of this book. Enjoy!
