She Saw What He Did by Lynda Renham #BookReview

About this book…

Abby Miller thought she had the perfect family; a good looking, loving husband and a beautiful daughter. Her life was complete. The shock discovery that her husband, Jared, had been having an affair rocked her world. So when Jared suggested a short break to the Cannard Islands, to heal their fractured marriage, Abby agreed. An idyllic holiday turns into a nightmare when Abby sees something through the telephoto lens of her camera. Suddenly her life and the life of her daughter are in serious danger and no one seems able to help them.

My review…

I do love it when I actually learn something new whilst reading a book and here in She Saw What He Did, Lynda Renham introduced me to geocaching! I had never heard of this outdoor pursuit before and was intrigued enough to find out more! But that was AFTER I finished reading as nothing was going to tear me away from this fast paced thriller before the end!

Abby Miller was a lovely character, likeable and really easy to relate to. I felt very sympathetic towards her when she found out that her husband Sam was cheating on her but his remorse felt genuine so when they decided on a getaway to rekindle their marriage I wanted it to work out for them. But whilst geocaching (honestly, you should Goggle it if you’re unsure like I was!) they come across a crime scene that puts their lives and those of their loved ones in danger.

This really was a thrill a minute ride! I enjoyed the “family in peril” elements of the plot but also the police point of view as it was a little different to the normal police investigation. The island setting meant that there wasn’t much crime for them to solve and Ellen, the police officer, was bored and looking to move to the mainland for a bit more excitement. But after six years of dealing with kids playing football where they shouldn’t and stolen bikes, she is going to have her work cut out when the full extent of what Abby witnessed becomes clear.

I have read lots of Lynda Renham’s books before but this one had a very different feel to it and I definitely think that she needs to write more thrillers in the future. It was a fast paced puzzle that came together with a huge bang at the end and a fabulous little epilogue. And I think Ellen has some mileage left in her as well so hopefully we will get to meet her again in the future.

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.
