Envy by Amanda Robson #blogtour

It’s my day to review Envy by Amanda Robson as part of the blog tour! Huge thanks to Sabah at Avon for my review copy of the book and my invite onto the blog tour.

About this book…

She wants your life – and she’ll do anything to get it…

Erica has always wanted to be exactly like her neighbour, Faye: beautiful, thin, and a mother. But Faye’s life isn’t as perfect as it seems – she has a terrible secret, and slowly but surely, it is threatening to destroy her and everything she holds dear.

When Faye’s daughter Tamsin goes missing after school, the police turn to Erica. But is Erica the only one who has been enviously watching Faye? Or is there another threat hiding in the shadows…?

An unsettling, claustrophobic thriller about jealousy, greed and desire from Sunday Times bestseller Amanda Robson.

What did I think…

This was an addictive read that really made me think about whether or not the grass is always greener on the other side! Faye is Erica’s thin, beautiful, yummy mummy neighbour but from the start it’s quite obvious that Erica is jealous of a woman who is not as happy or as perfect as either of them thinks. Faye is a model but at 34 she realises her days are numbered no matter how stunning she is. But her need to be wanted and desired is about to lead her into trouble that could potentially be even worse than being stalked by Erica.

This was an easy to follow psychological thriller that ramped up the tension by using short but shocking chapters to keep it a fast paced storyline. None of the characters were particularly likeable so it was often hard to really care about what happened to them but there was a perverse need to make sure that they got whatever was coming to them…be it good or bad!! Having read Amanda Robson’s previous two books I knew that this was her style and it definitely works for her!

Envy has a very current feel to it as it concentrates on society’s obsession with perfection. But it acknowledges the reality behind those perfectly flawless images people post on social media. It certainly made me wary of judging other people’s lives and finding my own lacking because YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT GOES ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS!! And although I always had an idea of where Envy was heading, there were plenty of twists and turns and psychotic behaviour to keep me gleefully enthralled to see who would get their comeuppance and how.

A dark and compelling read with a voyeuristic pull!

Meet the author…

After graduating, Amanda Robson worked in medical research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and at the Poisons Unit at Guy’s Hospital, where she became a co-author of a book on cyanide poisoning. Amanda attended the Faber novel-writing course, and is now a full-time author. Her debut novel, Obsession, was a #1 ebook bestseller and her second novel, Guilt, was a Sunday Times bestseller.
