Today it’s my stop on the blog tour for Who Did You Tell by Lesley Kara. Huge thanks to Anne Cater for my blog tour invite and review copy of the book.
What’s the book about?
Every town has its secrets. Lesley Kara knows them all . . .
From the author of 2019’s biggest crime thriller debut, The Rumour, comes an addictive new novel . . .
It’s been 192 days, seven hours and fifteen minutes since her last drink. Now Astrid is trying to turn her life around.
Having reluctantly moved back in with her mother, in a quiet seaside town away from the temptations and painful memories of her life before, Astrid is focusing on her recovery. She’s going to meetings. Confessing her misdeeds. Making amends to those she’s wronged.
But someone knows exactly what Astrid is running from. And they won’t stop until she learns that some mistakes can’t be corrected.
Some mistakes, you have to pay for . . .
What did I think?
OMG!! If you liked The Rumour then you are going to LOVE Who Did You Tell? Its twisty and shocking with a narrative that sucks you in from the very first page and keeps you there. It’s as addictive as hell which is quite fitting when you realise that one of the main characters, Astrid, has an addiction problem. She is an alcoholic, coping with a secret from her past concerning her ex boyfriend Simon. Following a major relapse, she’s now living back with her mother in Flinstead and attending local AA meetings. But things are starting to look up for her. She’s made some friends at her AA meetings, met a gorgeous man on the beach and is starting to paint again in paid employment. So it’s no surprise really when it starts to all fall down around her…
The fictional town of Flinstead is the perfect setting for Lesley Kara’s characters. Having grown up in a small seaside town myself, I recognised the small town mentality where everyone knows you or someone in your family and you can’t do anything without it getting back to your parents-even if you are now in your 30s! The scenes on the beach between Astrid and Josh were some of my favourites as they started to get to know each other and realised that there was the possibility of their friendship evolving into something more-even if she did think his dad was rather a good looking older man too!
I am pleased to say that, unlike The Rumour, I didn’t guess who was behind all the strange things that started happening to Astrid or why. I thought I had and had been proved right at one point but then Lesley Kara pulled the rug from beneath my feet with a fabulous double bluff! Once again she has created my ideal psychological thriller from start to finish and I bloody loved it!
Highly recommended by me.
