Hysteria by L.J. Ross

What’s this book about?

In a beautiful world, murder is always ugly…

Recently returned from his last case in Ireland, elite forensic psychologist and criminal profiler Dr Alexander Gregory receives a call from the French police that he can’t ignore. It’s Paris fashion week and some of the world’s most beautiful women are turning up dead, their faces slashed in a series of frenzied attacks while the world’s press looks on.

Amidst the carnage, one victim has survived but she’s too traumatised to talk. Without her help, the police are powerless to stop the killer before he strikes again – can Gregory unlock the secrets of her mind, before it’s too late?

Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst the spectacular Parisian landscape.

What did I think?

So it’s the second outing for psychologist and criminal profiler Dr Alexander Gregory and this time he’s off to the fashion capital of the world! Yes he has been summoned to Paris during Fashion Week to help solve the murder of a beautiful model found murdered in her hotel room. After the emotional trauma of his last case in Ireland, he is keen to rise to the challenge but is hit by frustration when one of the witnesses to the crime is so traumatically affected that she is unable to provide much in the way of help.

To begin with I was a little confused as to what was going on and it seemed a strange case for Alexander Gregory to become involved in. But as it progressed I became completely immersed in the gripping narrative. I was left gobsmacked by the denouement and definitely did not see that coming!

I enjoyed seeing how the character of Alexander Gregory developed after what happened previously and how the secrets that had been uncovered affected his personality both at work and at home. He really is a bit of an enigma still though and I definitely need to unwrap more of his complex layers in future cases as we follow him around the world! LJ Ross has created another addictive series and I’m looking forward to book 3 now!

Highly recommended by me!
