Today I’m delighted to be sharing my review of Alice Teale is Missing by H.A. Linskey as part of the blog tour.
What’s the book about?
Alice Teale walked out of school at the end of a bright spring day.
She’s not been seen since.
Alice was popular and well-liked, and her boyfriend, friends and family are desperate to find her.
But soon it’s clear that everyone in her life has something to hide.
Then the police receive a disturbing package.
Pages from Alice’s precious diary.
Who could have sent them? And what have they done with Alice?
Alice Teale is Missing is a brilliant crime thriller that will tease you throughout with clues to what happened to Alice but I defy anyone to guess the outcome of his highly addictive thriller! To be honest I did find the final clue that brought everything together a little hard to believe (I can’t explain why without spoilers!) but that’s the only niggle I had about this dark and atmospheric crime thriller set in an authentically portrayed town in the North East of England.
Alice Teale has gone missing. Her teacher last saw her leaving school on a Friday evening before she walked into the distance and disappeared. As the police investigation focuses on her friends and family, we are allowed insights into Alice’s journal where she details the secrets and lies that could lay at the centre of her disappearance. And it was actually the relationship between the detectives on the case that really brought this dark and distressing crime read to a different level! Beth Winter is on a fast track programme where she has been waiting for her break. Being partnered with Lucas Black gives her the Alice Teale case to get her teeth into, but a jealous comment by one of her colleagues makes her realise that her new partner may have more secrets than those she is investigating. Lucas Black is a closed book but as the case intensifies, he and Beth must learn to trust each other and work together to solve an emotive crime. And it was this exploration of the characters that made me hope that I get to meet them again.
H.A. Linskey is a brilliant author and has really delivered here with this atmospheric narrative that kept me gripped from the first page till the last. It’s one of the best crime books I’ve read this year so far and it will take a lot to beat it. Highly addictive and definitely worth a read!
