The Happy Couple by Samantha Hayes #blogtour #review @bookouture

I’m delighted to be on the blog tour today for The Happy Couple by Samantha Hayes. I’m a huge fan so it’s a real honour for me. Many thanks to Bookouture and Sarah Hardy for my review copy of the book and for my tour invite.

Me and Will. Will and Me. A perfect match. He said he would always be there for me, but it’s been a year since he drained his coffee, walked out the front door and vanished.

Did he leave me? Or did something terrible happen? I’m scared someone finally found out about what happened on the drive home that night…

I lie awake at night trawling the internet for rental properties, desperate for an escape. Until I see my husband’s gorgeous face smiling back at me from a photograph on the fireplace in someone else’s home, and something inside of me snaps.

At the house, I find no trace of him and the woman who lives there has no idea who I am. But I’m certain she’s hiding something behind the locked door upstairs. I know that if I want answers, I have to stay.

You might think that what’s inside that room is the answer to all my questions and the end of all my pain. But it’sonly the beginning…

Nail-biting and completely gripping, The Happy Couple will make you question how well you really know the ones you love. Perfect reading for anyone who adored by The Wife Between UsThe Girl on The Train or Gone Girl.

OMG Samatha Hayes has done it again! How she consistently thinks up her gripping plot lines is beyond me as she always manages to pull the wool over my eyes! Just when you are patting yourself on the back and congratulating yourself on working out where her narrative is going…BAM! she hits you between the eyes with the most perfectly placed plot twist that had never even crossed your mind! You certainly won’t see where this one is going so just buckle up and enjoy the ride because it’s a wild one!

I used to work as an estate agent and have always had a thing for looking around other people’s houses. I find them fascinating as you give more away about yourself than you realise by how your home is presented. I still love looking on RightMove at houses for sale but have sadly never spotted anything suspect! But I loved the premise of a woman looking at photos of someone else’s home and seeing something that has absolutely no place being there-something that wouldn’t mean anything to anyone else but you.

I think most of us would agree that it’s the not knowing that hurts more than anything else so when Jo’s husband Will disappears, she struggles with not knowing why and whether he’s dead or alive. They were happy and trying for a baby so surely he wouldn’t have gone on his own accord but no trace of Will has been found since the night he left. Something bad has obviously happened in the past that I thought I’d guessed correctly but I wasn’t quite 100% in my prediction. Jo sees Will everywhere and I found this incredibly disturbing and confusing at times! Why did she get these visions? Her mental health was so delicate so why was she not being supported more by those around her? Watching this woman on the edge channel all her efforts into searching for clues was so heartbreaking but also disturbing. Travelling miles to house sit for a stranger just because she thought she saw photos of her husband in another woman’s living room…what was she thinking?! But a locked room may be hiding more secrets than Jo was expecting to find so was she right and what will she find when she eventually gets into that room? The answers will definitely NOT be what you are expecting!

The Happy Couple is a BRILLIANT page turner! It has an incredibly satisfying ending that sent shivers done my spine. AND an exquisite twist that made my heart sing! Loved, loved, LOVED it!

Samantha Hayes grew up in Warwickshire, left school at sixteen, avoided university and took jobs ranging from private detective to barmaid to fruit picker and factory worker. She lived on a kibbutz, and spent time living in Australia and the USA, before finally becoming a crime-writer.

Her writing career began when she won a short story competition in 2003 and her sixteenth novel, THE HAPPY COUPLE is out 6th May. Her novels are family-based psychological thrillers, with the emphasis being on ‘real life fiction’. She focuses on current issues and sets out to make her readers ask, ‘What if this happened to me or my family?’ And you’ll always find a BIG twist at the end of her novels!

GOOD HOUSEKEEPING says “We’re big fans of Samantha Hayes. Her believable psychological thrillers are completely gripping…”

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.
