Before I Say I Do by Vicki Bradley #blogtour #BeforeISayIDo @annecater @vbradleywriter

Happy Bank Holiday Monday! It’s a bittersweet day for me today as we were due to be in Greece this week which is why I had room for this blog tour as I had left the week free. But instead I’m working in school today and sharing my review for Before I Say I Do by Vicki Bradley! Many thanks to Anne Cater for my blog tour invite and review copy of the book.

Her dream wedding is about to become her worst nightmare
Julia is nervous and it’s not just because she’s about to get married. There’s a lot that her soon- to-be husband, Mark, doesn’t know – and she is determined to keep it that way.
As she walks down the aisle, spotting Mark is his tailored suit, she knows she is taking her first steps to happiness- her past can’t catch her now. He turns to face her…
But it isn’t Mark in the beautiful suit – it’s his best man. Because Mark is missing.
And Julia’s past is closer than she thinks.

If you’re looking for a new author who can deliver a riveting crime thriller then look no further! This is Vicki Bradley’s debut novel and what a dark and disturbing thriller it is. I completely devoured it within a matter of hours and was left wanting more of the same…much more!!

Julia is looking forward to the best day of her life when she marries her fiancé Mark. Yes, she has secrets about her past but that part of her life is over and she’s looking forward to her new married life. But on the day of their wedding when she walks down the aisle it isn’t Mark who waits for her there but his best friend David. Mark is missing and it may have something to do with those secrets Julia was hoping to escape from. And boy, those secrets are pretty big for one woman to be coping with on her own! It’s when Julia starts to search for the truth that things get very, VERY harrowing for both her and the police officer put in charge of the case. The horrific twists and turns that follow will keep you on the edge of your seat as this nightmarish scenario goes from bad to worse because Julia’s past is about to catch up with her.

I loved the characters here especially Alana Loxton and her partner Kowalski who worked brilliantly together, each complimenting the other with their detecting skills. Their investigation was thorough and realistic with each new piece of information that they uncovered feeling organically derived from their inquiries.

I found Julia a rather closed book to begin with. Her experiences had obviously clouded her judgments and I wondered how she ever thought that she could get away with not telling the man she loved and planned to spend the rest of her life with the secrets of her past. Not exactly a marriage made in heaven with all those lies as a foundation so I’m not surprised that the walls of Julia and Marks lives started to crumble.

You could certainly tell that Vicki Bradley knows her stuff and has written what she knows. The police procedures were well written and played out with relationships between the police team feeling true to life. Alana is a character that I’d quite happily read about again as I loved her work ethics and gutsy attitude to her job.

Highly recommend this one for all crime and psychological thriller fans. It’s definitely one I’ll remember!

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.
