Just Like The Other Girls by Claire Douglas

She thought she was safe. So did the others . . .

*CARER/COMPANION WANTED FOR ELDERLY LADY*

*YOUNG FEMALE PREFERRED * COMPETITIVE SALARY*

*ROOM AND BOARD INCLUDED*

Una Richardson is devastated after the death of her mother. Hoping for a fresh start, she responds to an advertisement and steps into the rich, comforting world of elderly Mrs Elspeth McKenzie.

But Elspeth’s home is not as safe as it seems.

Kathryn, her cold and bitter daughter, resents Una’s presence. More disturbing is the evidence suggesting two girls lived here before.

What happened to the girls?

Why will the McKenzies not talk about them?

As the walls close in around her, Una fears she’ll end up just like the other girls . . .

Una thinks she has really landed on her feet when she gets a job as a companion for an elderly lady. It definitely seems to good to be true with her room in a beautiful old house in an affluent area of Bristol and the easy job of just being there for Elspeth McKenzie. There are some negatives though, namely her daughter Kathryn-a cold and haughty woman who seems to dislike Una on first sight. But when Una discovers that her predecessors have all died in mysterious circumstances she starts to wonder what she has got herself into…

There was a post on FB the other day that asked for your “go to” authors, the ones who’s book you buy or preorder without even reading the blurb. Well, Claire Douglas is one of mine! I’ll admit that the first book of hers that I read didn’t quite do it for me (that book was The Sisters which does have fabulous reviews so do check it out as it definitely was a personal thing for me!) but there was something there that made me pick up her second book and from that moment I was hooked! She never lets me down and I absolutely adore her books as her style of writing, the characters she creates and the storylines she crafts are my ideal for a great psychological thriller. And Just Like The Other Girls continues that pattern. It’s a gripping story with a shocking twist that had my jaw dropping at full speed! Which is why I love Claire Douglas! She isn’t afraid to mix it up and drop a major game changer into her storylines so that the whole plot takes an unexpected turn!

Just Like The Other Girls had it all for me. I was completely gripped by this compelling storyline and love that I was convinced that I knew EXACTLY who and what was behind the deaths of the previous companions but I was way off the mark! And that epilogue!! I was NOT expecting that!

Just Like The Other Girls fulfilled all my expectations and more! I loved it and have already preordered Claire’s next book out next year. No idea what it’s about but I know I NEED it in my life!

Claire Douglas always wanted to write novels and, after many years of trying to get published, her dream came true when she won the Marie Claire Debut Novel Award in 2013 with THE SISTERS.

Her subsequent novels LOCAL GIRL MISSING, LAST SEEN ALIVE and DO NOT DISTURB all reached the Sunday Times top ten bestsellers list and are published in over fifteen countries. LOCAL GIRL MISSING was the bestselling crime debut of 2018 in Germany. Her fifth thriller, THEN SHE VANISHES is due for release in Ebook end of June 2019 and in paperback August 2019.

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.
