What to buy in April? The Therapist by B.A. Paris #publicationday #review #thetherapist

When Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in The Circle, a gated community of exclusive houses, it is everything they’ve dreamed of. But appearances can be deceptive…

As Alice is getting to know her neighbours, she discovers a devastating, grisly secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before.

Alice becomes obsessed with trying to piece together what happened two years before. But no one wants to talk about it. Her neighbours are keeping secrets and things are not as perfect as they seem…

The million-copy Sunday Times bestselling author B A Paris returns to her heartland of gripping psychological suspense in this powerful tale of a house that holds a shocking secret.

Living in leafy Cheshire, we have quite a few gated communities around where we live, with a new one just down the road that I’ve been eyeing up enviously since it was built! But The Therapist has put me off moving…not just to a gated community but possibly anywhere as at least I know my neighbours where I am at the moment! But it was the neighbours who really made this dark and twisty read for me as I didn’t know who to trust…so I trusted NO ONE!!

When Leo and Alice take the step of moving in with each other they decide to buy a new place together rather than move into either of their own properties. And I didn’t blame them as the house they purchased for a very good price was in a wonderful gated community called The Circle-an exclusive development of only 12 houses. But if something seems to be too good to be true then there’s usually a reason and when Alice finds out what that reason is, well…let’s just say that she really isn’t very happy! Fortunately, she starts to fit into the friendship group that has been formed between the women of a similar age to her but when she becomes obsessed about finding out the truth about what happened to the previous occupant of her new home, those friendly smiles start to slip…

BA Paris is back to her thrilling best here with a compelling storyline delivering utterly breathtaking twists and turns. Although I did enjoy her previous novel, The Dilemma, The Therapist was much more my cup of tea-a gripping psychological thriller where I thought I had all worked out but was (unusually for me!) quite a bit off the mark! The tension built up perfectly, with Alice’s viewpoint balanced out with that of a therapist, keeping the reader guessing due to the many red herrings spread throughout the well thought out plot line.

The Therapist was originally due to be published in January but was pushed back to April due to the recent lockdown. But bookshops are now OPEN again and as The Therapist publishes today, I hope that you will celebrate by popping out and buying a copy from your local bookstore. You won’t regret it!

B A Paris is the internationally bestselling author of Behind Closed Doors, The Breakdown, Bring Me Back and The Dilemma. Having sold over one million copies in the UK alone, she is a New York Times bestseller as well as Sunday Times bestseller and a number one bestseller on Amazon and iBooks. Her books have been translated into 40 languages. Having lived in France for many years, she and her husband recently moved back to the UK.
Her fifth novel The Therapist is out in April 2021

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.
