Truth Games by Caroline England #publicationdayreview

She tries hard to be the perfect mother, the perfect partner, the perfect daughter – but Ellie never seems to get it right.

When an old friend from university re-enters her life, dark memories from Ellie’s past begin to resurface.

As Ellie starts to unravel some shocking and sinister realities, she realises that she must choose between keeping the family she loves – and facing the truth.

From the Top Ten ebook bestselling author, this twisty psychological thriller will have you hooked from the first page to the last jaw-dropping twist.

Truth Games is a slow burning domestic drama with some cracking twists delivered throughout. It took me a while to get used to Caroline England’s detailed and leisurely style of writing but this simmering pot of secrets and repressed memories gradually built up until it exploded with some shocking and unexpected revelations.

Ellie has a family life that we will all recognise. She’s a busy mum of three boys (one of whom has additional needs) so she is constantly on the go. Her father has recently taken ill and to top it all off, an old friend reappears after years away leaving her feeling confused as it leads to some very dark memories returning. She is also plagued by the most terrible nightmares which leave her disturbed and disoriented. But most of the time, family life takes on the normality that we all recognise and which gives Home Truths its edgy but deliberately measured storyline.

Caroline England has delivered a domestic noir with an intense and intelligent storyline and plenty of unlikeable, untrustworthy characters just waiting to spill all their secrets and emotions. It creeps up on you slowly until you are gripped by all the questions it throws up and when the answers come, they are well worth the wait. A compelling read!
