The Trapped Wife by Samantha Hayes #booksontour @bookouture

The rain hammers the glass outside. My husband has stoked the wood burner with a fresh supply of logs, and I’ve just put a joint of beef in the oven. It’s the most clichéd Sunday afternoon ever, and it’s the most heavenly one, too. Little do I know that days later, the ash in the fire will be all that remains of us…

My perfect life…

I thought I had it all – a dream job as a doctor in small town, a stunning home and a family I adore – but that illusion shattered the moment my husband Jeremy left on a work trip and vanished without a trace. Now my son and I are all alone in the world.

My missing husband…

My best friend thinks Jeremy had an accident up in the mountains, that I’ll never see him again and need to move on. I know he loves us too much to ever abandon us, but my head is still spinning with the texts I found on his phone before he left. Did I ever really know the man I married?

The night I can’t remember…

Everything changed the night of the medical conference weeks before Jeremy disappeared. I wrack my brains for answers, but my memory goes blank after my first drink. Ever since, I’ve felt like I’m being followed and can’t explain why panic thunders in my chest every time I see my newest patient. If he’s not local to the village, then why does he seem so familiar? And so dangerous?

As I piece together the shards of what really happened that fateful evening, only one thing can possibly be true: everyone is lying, even me…

The Trapped Wife is one of my September #HOTBOOKS picks and I am delighted to be able to share my review with you today as part of the blog tour. Samantha Hayes is one of my very favourite authors and for years I have bought and read all of her books as she never lets me down! The Twisted Wife is once again a brilliantly twisty psychological thriller that will have you questioning everything you read but I guarantee you will NOT see where this one is going until you arrive at the shocking revelations it dishes up…

Jen Miller is a GP who has been having a difficult time. Her husband, who she is convinced was having an affair, has recently been reported missing presumed dead in an avalanche on a work trip he was on with the woman she suspected him of sleeping with. She has also had an horrific experience on a work night out where she thinks she was drugged and raped. Her best friend Rhonda is trying to be as supportive as she can but although Jen is trying to keep it together for the sake of their teenage son, she is struggling with her mental health and is now convinced that she is being watched by someone…

If you’ve read books by this author before then you know she is brilliant at pulling the wool over your eyes and here she has once again delivered such a shocking twist that you will need to pick your jaw off the floor! The clues are there as you read but I didn’t link them all together to form the bigger picture so when everything came together it was such a shock! Most of the characters here are unlikeable, complex creations with an unreliable perspective and that helps to create a tension throughout as you never know who is telling the truth…

The Twisted Wife is a brilliant, twisty turny ride and I absolutely loved it! I highly recommend it for lovers of gripping storylines and unsettling twists! LOVED IT!

I am a Norfolk girl living in leafy Cheshire with my grumpy Scotsman. A mum and nana who lives for my family but who is also addicted to reading (and Marmite!) I will read almost anything but my preferred genres to review are psychological thrillers, crime procedural novels or women's fiction. My kindle is my life but I also have a substantial bookshelf in my cosy reading room where I can go to escape the stresses of family life with plenty of tea and chocolate. I am a member of netgalley and bookbridg. I review on Amazon, where I'm a Top 500 reviewer, and Goodreads. You can always find me over on Twitter @jocatrobertson for any review requests.
