Victoria Barnett has it all.
A great career as a nurse practitioner. A handsome and loving husband. A beautiful home in the suburbs and a plan to fill it with children. Life is perfect—or so it seems.
Then she’s in a terrible accident… and everything falls apart.
Now Victoria is unable to walk. She can’t feed or dress herself. She can’t even speak. She is confined to the top floor of her house with twenty-four-hour care.
Sylvia Robinson is hired by Victoria’s husband to help care for her. But it turns out Victoria isn’t as impaired as Sylvia was led to believe. There’s a story Victoria desperately wants to tell… if only she could get out the words.
Then Sylvia discovers Victoria’s diary hidden away in a drawer.
And what’s inside is shocking.
My TBR pile is massive and I have a trolley full of blog tour reads but since I read The Housemaid by Freida McFadden I have become obsessed by her books and downloaded all of them to my phone (my optician is going to be LIVID!!!) and I can’t stop reading them!
The Wife Upstairs is a gripping and chilling psychological thriller where you never quite know who to trust. Sylvia is in a restaurant when she saves a very ungrateful woman from chocking and meets Adam, an attractive writer who comes to her aid at just the right time. He ends up offering her a job as live in carer to his wife Victoria who has suffered a terrible accident and is confined to a wheelchair. Sylvia needs a fresh start and so takes up the challenge of looking after the brain damaged young woman. They build a bond that leads to Victoria indicating she wants Sylvia to read her diary and it will challenge everything she believes to be true about her employers…
As with The Housemaid, I couldn’t put this book down. Freida McFadden writes such compelling books that you become quickly involved in the complex lives of her characters. The storyline builds beautifully challenging your expectations and leading to some astonishing twists that will leave you open mouthed! I absolutely love how this author plays with me like a cat tormenting a mouse so I’m now off to put myself through more of the same!!
Highly recommended by me!
#1 Amazon bestselling author Freida McFadden is a practicing physician specializing in brain injury who has penned multiple Kindle bestselling psychological thrillers and medical humor novels. She lives with her family and black cat in a centuries-old three-story home overlooking the ocean, with staircases that creak and moan with each step, and nobody could hear you if you scream. Unless you scream really loudly, maybe.
